Metering Engineer

1. Scope of Responsibilities

Lab Technician is responsible to provide laboratory support to the maintenance and metering team within the Badra contract, perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials to provide data on quality and content of fluids being metered for comparison to contractual export specification.

2. Primary Duties

Ø Provide laboratory support to the maintenance and metering team within the Badra contract

Ø Perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials to provide data on quality and content of fluids being metered for comparison to contractual export specification

Ø Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, viscometer, chemical balance scales, spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph, colorimeter and other like equipment for testing oil and gas samples

Ø Collect samples as directed by Metering Engineer

Ø Tests material samples from the process plant and other products used – for such qualities as purity, stability, viscosity, density, absorption, gas chromatograph, sulphur and flash point

Ø Records test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used

Ø Prepares graphs and charts.

Ø Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment.

Ø Calibrates laboratory instruments.

Ø Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas

Ø Adds chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or products batches to correct or establish formulation required to meet specifications

Ø Advise on off spec samples

Ø Maintain equipment in good working order for accurate and safe use. This to include calibration of gauges and repair of lab equipment

Ø Monitor the status of lab chemical inventory and order necessary lab chemicals as required or instructed by supervisor.

Ø Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the laboratory

Ø When not working in laboratory support metering team on site or other duties as directed by Metering Engineer or Maintenance Manger

Ø Liaise with CMMS Engineer and Planner on schedule of work

Ø All defects and anomalies associated with the laboratory and its equipment to be recorded in the CMMS to ensure rectification

Ø Be conversant with project KPI’s and support their delivery and attainment at all times

Ø Compile or receive detailed written Handover prior to; and completion of leave and/or field breaks
Be conversant with Petrofac’s safety Golden rules

Ø Carry out HSE Audits as directed by the Planning Manager

Ø Provide input to the project weekly and monthly reports

Strong HSE awareness in the following areas:

Ø Risk recognition / risk awareness

Ø Permits to Work, Toolbox Talks & Checklists

Ø Correct chemical control, handling, and storage

Ø Always use fume cupboard for hazardous tests

Ø Awareness of H2S and N2 hazards

Ø Use of BA equipment especially when collecting potentially toxic samples

Ø Manual handling techniques

Ø Correct use of, PPE especially for chemical handling

Ø Simultaneous Operations hazards

Ø Dropped objects & trip hazard mitigation

Ø Working at height

Ø Report HSE incidents and all near misses

4. Minimum Job Requirement

Ø 8 years’ experience in Petrochemical or Oil and Gas project/operations in a Laboratory Technician role.

Ø NC/ONC, National Diploma in chemical technology or equivalent in a relevant chemical/laboratory discipline.
