Reporting to the High School Principal, the HS English Teacher will be joining a dynamic team of top-notch HS professionals who not only enjoy teaching and learning, but also enjoy working with students. The 190+ international high school students attending the school flourish in small class sizes through their studies in a liberal arts standards-based curriculum. The curriculum for this position includes one section of AP English Language, one section of AP English Literature, and 3 sections of Grade 9 or 10 English.

• Demonstrates knowledge of standards based curriculum, including AERO and the Common

Core

• Comprehends the principles of student growth, development and learning, and applies them

appropriately

• Effectively utilizes standards based student assessment techniques and procedures

• Manages the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a

safe and healthy environment

• Works collaboratively with colleagues in the development of vertically articulated curriculum

• Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate

“Must Have”

Valid, US-recognized teaching certificate

• Bachelor’s degree in English

• Minimum of three years experience teaching a North American high school curriculum,

specifically teaching English, including AP or equivalent

• Demonstrated passion for and love of English literature and the teaching of English

Literature

• Desire to work with a wide range of HS students, with diverse ages, abilities, and

nationalities

• Demonstrated experience contributing to the school community, both within and outside

the subject area, including extracurricular activities (clubs, coaching, etc.)

“Nice to Have”

• International teaching experience

• Proven track record of success in preparing students for the AP English Literature and AP

English Language examinations

• Masters degree (MAT with a concentration in English)

• Experience with HS extra-curricular activities (Yearbook, School newspaper, coaching, etc.)

• Experience teaching a wide range of nationalities
